Old Betsy
A 1928 an American LaFrance Fire Engine arrived in Wayne via a boxcar. The first Fire Engine with a pumping capacity of 1000 gallons per minute in Wayne County. The $12,000.00 Fire Engine served the City of Wayne for 50 years. The first 28 years saving lives and buildings. The next 22 years saving lives as a part of the Fire Department's Public Education Department.
In 1978 Old Betsy was given to the Henry Ford Museum to be put on display so thousands of people could enjoy her. Old Betsy was there on display until 2002, when the museum no longer had room for the vintage vehicle.
Now 2008 and Old Betsy is getting closer to being parade ready. The majority of the money needed has been raised. Now its time for "Bucks for Betsy" to finish up the last of the old girls facelift.
Once completed Old Betsy will be driven in local parades and used to teach Fire Safety. A great way to serve the community she once worked for.
So please help the Fire Department out by sending in "Bucks for Betsy", if everyone sent in one or two bucks that could make the diference of getting old Betsy back to work to help educate kids.
